The chart above depicts the percent of contributions in U.S. Dollars donated to Republican and Democrat candidates/parties/affiliated groups, seeking national office during the 2020 election cycle, donated by employees, or owners, of the companies listed, and those individuals' immediate family members, based on data collected from www.opensecrets.org.
In some instances the money was possibly donated by the actual company, but the bulk of it typically comes from individuals within the company, or immediate family members of individuals within the company. The only way I'm discussing the actual organization is if I reference it as "the organization itself", otherwise, I'm talking about the jargon mentioned above (individuals within the company, owners, employees, direct family, etc.). In some instances, the money considered contributed may come from PACs affiliated with the mentioned organization.
The good news, Coffee is still an American beverage. There's a big difference between being awake and being woke though, so make the right choices. I get it, we're all going to slip a bit from time to time in this category, but do your best and I'll do mine. Perhaps, over the course of time, "convenience will feel a bit of squeeze that helps it wake up, because the coffee definitely ain't working!
Finally, Democrats on the Left, Republicans on the Right!
Folgers/Cafe Bustelo $42,239 $452,026
McDonalds $629,823 $1,019,097
Peet's* $298,106 $148,473
Starbucks $984,420 $120,489
Dunkin'** $137,127 $565,496
Totals $2,091,715 $2,305,581
$4,397,296
The coffee producers above donated a combined $4,397,296, to 2020 political campaigns. 52% of which (equaling $13,468,814) went to candidates (or entities associated with) Republicans.,
*Peet's is owned by JAB Holding Co., which also owns 67% of Keurig. So, the Peet's numbers also reflect on Keurig.
Dunkin'** is owned by Inspire Brands, which is owned by Roark Capital. The numbers you see above are based on Roark. Dunkin' by itself (not the organization directly, but as described above... as the organization itself actually donated directly to more Democrats, ugh!) donated more to Republicans, at an amount of $88,419 to Republicans and $76,034 to Democrats. With that said, I hope you can understand why I'm not recommending Dunkin' but I did work the numbers a bit with deep digging in order to make sure we could keep Coffee as an American drink.
