Additional Information

The chart above depicts the percent of contributions in U.S. Dollars donated to Republican and Democrat candidates/parties/affiliated groups, seeking national office during the 2020 election cycle, donated by employees, or owners, of the companies listed, and those individuals' immediate family members, based on data collected from www.opensecrets.org.

In some instances the money was possibly donated by the actual company, but the bulk of it typically comes from individuals within the company, or immediate family members of individuals within the company.  The only way I'm discussing the actual organization is if I reference it as "the organization itself", otherwise, I'm talking about the jargon mentioned above (individuals within the company, owners, employees, direct family, etc.).  In some instances, the money considered contributed may come from PACs affiliated with the mentioned organization.

Interesting notes:

Walmart sells Murphy Gas, and they're not nearly as dedicated as we'd like them to be.  So we'll try to avoid that one when possible.

Shell is the worst of the bunch, and unfortunately my research indicates that Shell is the gasoline used by Kroger.

Finally, Democrats on the Left, Republicans on the Right!

Exxon           $1,046,809   $1,806,859

Chevron          $862,488   $1,543,614

Valero             $148,000   $1,192,612

Shell                $338,344   $237,150

ConocoPhillips  $192,712    $432,473

Citgo (PDVSA) $19,109     $19,881

EOG                $18,037    $136,645

Marathon         $31,988     $100,270

Phillips 66         $238,047  $537,770

Murphy USA     $5,668      $7,996

Totals             $2,901,202  $6,015,270

Total amount contributed towards 2020 campaigns from the gasoline providers listed above totals $8,916,472.

Anybody but Shell, and let's be honest, probably not Citgo.  Do not fall for the foreign gas.

Kwik Trip   $30,389    $323,061

Totals        $229,525  $3,651,718

Total amount contributed towards 2020 campaigns from the gasoline stations listed above totals $3,881,243.

7-Eleven and Speedway are both owned by Seven & I Holdings.  To be fair, the bulk of their donations went to one Democrat in Massachusetts that ran for the Senate in 2020 and dropped out.  If you remove that donation, they are would also be mostly red.  Also, to be fair to them, they did donate slightly more to Trump than Biden.

Facts:

- State Farm, when donating as the organization itself, solely donated to Republicans.  Although they did not donate to directly to either Presidential candidate.  Another key thing that State Farm has going for them, is the fact that those affiliated with State Farm donated ~280k to Donald Trump compared with ~240k to Joe Biden.  They also have a great percentage, with the second highest amount given to Republicans.

- Geico was another contender with a great amount donated to Republicans than Democrats.  Individuals affiliated with Geico also donated ~10k more to Donald Trump than to Joe Biden.  The organization itself donated to both Democrats and Republicans, with ~20k advantage to Republicans.

- If you have an urge to go with the little guy, go with Travelers!  The organization itself donated ~50K more to Republicans than to Democrats.  The issue that I have with Travelers is that individuals affiliated with the company donated almost double to Joe Biden (~40k total) than to Donald Trump.

- USAA and the rest of these companies, ugh!  The biggest surprise by far to me was USAA.  The organization itself donated ~85k to Democrats, and only about ~45k to Republicans.  Additionally, the individuals affiliated with USAA donated ~150k to Biden, and only ~85k to Trump.

It's a toss up.  GM donated the highest dollar amount to Republicans.  Fiat/Chrysler (makers of Dodge) had the best balance.  Ford had the best balance if you consider they donated five times more than those associated with Dodge.  Toyota was a big disappointment (I drive one because they make Toyota's in Texas, but it's disappointing to see where there money went.  One thing that makes visiting www.opensecrets.org and seeing this data for yourself, is the fact that Ford, GM, and Toyota all reportedly donated more money (from the organization) to Democrats than Republicans.

There are 5 major parts dealers in the USA.  Amazon is number 1 and they do nearly 65% of total sales when you add up the revenue of all 5 of these companies.  Take a look at who Amazon donates to.  If you're like me, you won't be purchasing any auto parts (or other things) from Amazon in the near future.  We as a country have to get back to supporting each other, even if it costs a little bit more to do so.  Our shortcuts are growing large left-leaning funguses in this country, and it's a matter of time before we lose the American Dream because of our support towards personal convenience.

DON'T USE AMAZON!

According to https://bit.ly/3sKH6QA Amazon sells nearly 10 times the amount in auto parts of the next closest competitor.  Having Amazon on this list makes it a bit broad, thus it was handled a bit differently than many of the other analyses.

The recommendation here is to go with the little guys (meaning even smaller auto parts stores if you can), even if it costs a little bit more money or takes more time to get what you need.  If you have to shop online because of where you live, try the online stores for those companies listed or go to www.rockauto.com, as they're a family owned company (which I know nothing about their political leanings, but still better to go with the little guy!).

When it comes to tires, it can be a slick situation.  When looking for tires, be sure and look at this list of tire brands to find out who owns them.  https://bit.ly/2XShTs9

Bridgestone gets the gold, then Cooper, and Goodyear gets last.  I wish I could recommend Goodyear, as they are the American made company.  While the company directly donated a small amount more to Republicans than Democrats, Individuals associated with Goodyear donated more than $18,000 to Joe Biden in 2020.  At the same time, individuals associated with Goodyear reportedly donated less than $4,000 to Donald Trump.  Additionally, ALL direct donations from Bridgestone went to Republicans.

With the way President Trump was renegotiating decades of bad trade agreements, it was likely concerning to some in the company that things would become more and more difficult in terms of keeping operations in overseas.

While Goodyear does reportedly make some tires in the U.S., one would think they would boldly advertise the percentage of tires they're producing in our country, if they wanted to be treated as a legitimate American Company.  While they're certainly not the only "American" company that comes up short in doing this, likely for the reasons insinuated above, it's important to note why the "American" company is not always the Trumpanies Choice!

While I also recommend that you get the tires locally, if possible, I will remark that the #1 recipient of political donations from those associated with Discount Tire (as described in the first two paragraphs, on the top left side of this page), was Donald J. Trump.  So they get the button.
